One Piece Episode 1042 Review: The Predator’s Trap – Black Maria’s Temptation

Just like the past episodes, One Piece episode 1042 starts with the continuation of the fight in different places in Kaido’s castle. This episode was released on November 27 and titled “The Predator’s Trap: Black Maria’s Temptation.” Before going further, please remember, this review contains spoilers.

Recap of One Piece Episode 1041

In the previous episode of One Piece, we have seen many fighting happening in different places inside the castle of Kaido. First, Yamato challenges Kaido to a battle so that she can hold Kaido until Luffy recovers fully from the previous attacks of the Kaido.

Besides, o the performance floor, Sanji and Queen are battling neck to neck, while Sanji understood he can’t beat him alone. Wounded Zoro also understood the situation that he has to help Sanji to defeat Queen, so he suggested Chopper inject the drug which can heal any injury superfast, although there’s a big side effect later on.

So, chopper and other doctors from the animal kingdom injected the drug into Zoro. Meanwhile, on the other side, Franky is engaged with Sasaki in a fierce battle by continuing to defend himself from his strong attacks.

One Piece Episode 1042 Review

Episode 1042 starts with the continuation of the fight between Franky and Sasaki. Franky continue blocking strong attacks which were coming from Sasaki. But, Sasaki again transformed himself and launched his special attack bulle-triceratops with full force.

Franky was not sure if he can defend against this attack, but he believed his General Canon and successfully defend the attack. This time, he didn’t just stop by defending himself rather now he launched his special attack with Radical Beam on Sasaki.

On the other side, Yamato continues to engage with Kaido in a fierce battle. Besides, We got to know much information on Yamato’s devil fruit, and its power from Kaido. The name of Yamato’s devil fruit is dog-dog fruit, which is a mythical type.

This is a valuable mythical type fruit that is also called model okuchi-no-makami because this is named after the guardian deity of the land of the wano. Upon saying this, Kaido once again offered Yamato to rule the land of the wano along with him.

According to him, this country is a weapon factory and Orochi is helping him by exploiting the people of wano by forcing them to work in these weapon factories as labourers.

Yamato strongly denied the proposal and strongly replied she will rather open the borders of the land of the wano, which really made Kaido angry. Upon hearing Yamato’s reply, Kaido attacked her with his blask breath, and Yamato defended that strong attack by using Namiji Glacier Fang which is a special attack he got from her devil fruit.

Meanwhile, in another part of the castle Brook was surprised to see Robin as he found her got into an illusion that was created by Black Maria. This illusion manipulates the victim’s all sweet memories.

We, viewers, got to see the childhood memories of Robin in that illusion, where Robin saw Professor Clover and her giant friend Saul and continue to remember all the memories she had with them.

Robin also remembers her Mother Olvia who left her when she was born and never come back after that. But, when she came to her, she refused to accept Robin as her daughter. She said Robin must have mistaken her for her mom.

We got to see that that was the time when the Navy attacked the home island of Robin and to make her daughter safe Robin’s Mom did this. But, before her affection and emotions, Robin’s Mother couldn’t control herself any more and hugged Robin. She told her to leave this island and be safe as the Navy will kill everyone on that island.

While Brook understood all these and warned Robin not to go near Black Maria, she continues to remember her memories with everyone on her home island of Archaeologists.

She remembers her first meeting with Seal and how her mother Olvia was researching around the world to know the blank history of 100 years from Ponegliffs. But, finally, Robin understood this is an illusion mist created by Black Maria and broke the illusion & defeated Maria’s subordinates before they could attack her.

Conclusion

While there were not many action-based scenes as expected in one piece episode 1042, rather we have seen the memories and emotions of Robin. It could have been better if the episode could show more fights, as we have already known Robin’s past and her memories from previous arcs. Overall, we give this episode a 3.5 out of 5 rating.
